In front of the Greek Parliament these men in a rather funny and warm looking costume stand guard. It was about 38 degrees centigrade the day I took this picture; no wonder they were sweating after just a couple of minutes.

The Hagia Sofia has served as both a cathedral and a mosque over the centuries. Nowadays it’s a museum; where you can admire several of these gorgeous mosaics.

Under the Galata bridge over the Bosphorus there are lots of fish restaurants, about as close to the water as you can get. Also pay attention to the men on top of the bridge trying to reel in the catch of the day.

Lovcen, Montenegro

After a scenic drive up the Lovcen mountain and a couple hundred stairs you end up at this Mausoleum of Petar II Petrovic Njegos, the views over the Lovcen National Park are absolutely astonishing.

This belltower, constructed in 1506, can be seen from almost anywhere in the old parts of Dubrovnik.

Budva, Montenegro

Budva these days is the favorite hang-out spot for the Montenegrin rich & famous as well as wealthy Russians. No doubt because of that, it has some excellent bars. I took this picture at a juice bar serving an absolutely amazing watermelon smoothy.

Dubrovnik is almost too picturesque to be true; much against what I would have thought, it’s current design dates back from the 17th century.

These men are playing a giant version of chess on a little square in the middle of the city. They are quite fanatic about it, giving each other advice and arguing about every move, when you see the tensions rise here over a game of chess, it’s no surprise that this has been a troublesome region for a long time.

This national park in the middle of Croatia is on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites because of its beautiful lake and the more than 90 waterfalls that connect them.
